Teilo for iPhone, iPad and Mac · Last updated: 9 October 2026

Deutsch · English

In short: Teilo collects no data for us. Your groups, expenses and receipts stay on your devices and in iCloud: your own groups in your private iCloud storage, shared groups visible only to the people you share them with. We have no server, no user account, no ads and no analytics or tracking services. We cannot see what you spend. For exchange rates the app asks rate services on the internet, sending nothing but a currency and a date.

This policy covers the app “Teilo” for iPhone, iPad and Mac (bundle ID ch.neohorizon.Teilo) and this website. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The German version is the binding one.

2. What data the app processes

Everything in this list is entered by you or created in the app. It is stored on your devices and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in iCloud (section 3).

The app collects no location data, reads neither contacts nor calendars, uses no advertising identifier and creates no usage statistics. No third-party analytics, advertising or crash reporting services are built in. If you have allowed your device to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides us with crash reports that are not linked to you.

3. iCloud and sharing

Teilo stores your groups in iCloud using Apple CloudKit, so that iPhone, iPad and Mac show the same state and you can share groups.

  • Your own groups are kept in the private database of your iCloud account. Only you have access, protected by your Apple Account.
  • Shared groups: When you share a group, iCloud creates a share for it. You choose whom to invite in Apple's dialog; the app gets no access to your contacts. Everyone who joins sees the whole group: people with their payment details, entries, receipts, notes and activity. Depending on the permission you give, they can edit the group or only view it. If the link works for anyone who has it, anyone it is passed on to can open it.
  • Participants: In the list of people in a shared group, Teilo shows the name from their iCloud account, or for invited people without a name, the email address or phone number used for the invitation.
  • “That’s Me”: When you choose “That’s Me” in a group, Teilo stores an identifier of your iCloud account with it. It contains neither your name nor your email address. Your devices recognise you by it, and the others see that this person uses Teilo.
  • Groups of others are stored in the iCloud account of the person who shares them. If you leave, Teilo removes the group from your devices; for the others it stays.

We as the developer cannot see any of this data. It is processed by Apple Inc. or Apple Distribution International Ltd. under Apple's privacy policy. Without iCloud your groups stay on the device only, and sharing is not possible.

4. Exchange rates

For expenses in another currency Teilo loads exchange rates from the internet:

  • reference rates of the European Central Bank through the service frankfurter.dev (api.frankfurter.dev), for about 30 currencies,
  • market rates of the open project currency-api for all other currencies, loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net or currency-api.pages.dev.

A request contains only the currency and the date, no amounts, names or details of your groups. As with any request on the internet, the server sees your device's IP address; the services may use servers outside Switzerland. Teilo sets no cookies for this and caches the rates on the device, so the app can calculate without a connection. You can always type in a rate yourself.

5. Receipts, camera and text recognition

Receipts are added with Teilo Pro: with the document scanner (camera), from your photos or, on the Mac, as a file. From your photos the app only receives the pictures you select. Apple Vision reads amount, date, currency and shop right on the device. Teilo stores a reduced copy of the receipt with the expense; in a shared group everyone in the group can see it.

6. Notifications

If you turn on “Notify Me of Others’ Entries” in the settings, Teilo shows a notification when someone adds something to a shared group. The notification is created on your device from the data iCloud syncs anyway. To deliver the others' changes quickly, iCloud uses Apple's push service. We have no push server of our own.

7. Permissions

  • Camera: scanning receipts.
  • Notifications: reporting new entries by others. Off by default.

Choosing from your photos needs no permission; you pick the pictures in Apple's dialog. All permissions are optional and can be withdrawn in your device settings. Without them only the feature concerned is missing.

8. In-app purchases

The Pro subscriptions and the one-time purchase are handled entirely by Apple's App Store. A purchase applies on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account. We neither receive nor store payment data. Through Apple StoreKit the app only checks whether a valid purchase exists. The App Store terms apply; you manage and cancel subscriptions in the settings of your Apple Account.

9. Exports, reminders and payment links

The PDF statement, CSV file and Teilo file are created on your device. You pass them on through the share menu or, on the Mac, with “Save As…”. A Teilo file contains the whole group with its people and payment details and, if you choose, the receipts.

“Remind” and “Share” when settling up create a text that you send yourself through WhatsApp, Messages or Mail. It can include the TWINT number, IBAN or PayPal link of the person who receives money. If you tap a PayPal link, paypal.me opens and PayPal's terms apply. What happens to a file or message after you pass it on is up to you and the services you use for it.

10. Disclosure to third parties

We do not pass on or sell any data. The only recipients are the people you share a group with, the Apple services you use yourself (iCloud, App Store) and, for exchange rates, the services in section 4, which receive nothing but a currency and a date.

11. Retention and deletion

Data is kept as long as you keep it in the app. If you delete an entry in a shared group, it disappears for everyone. “Delete All Data” in the settings deletes your own groups at once, also for the people you shared them with, leaves the groups of others, empties your data in iCloud and resets settings, cached rates and notifications. Before that, the app offers a backup. If you only delete the app, the data on the device is gone but stays in iCloud. You delete it there in your device settings under your name › iCloud › Manage Storage.

12. Support by email

If you write to us, we use your email address and the content of your message only to answer you. We delete the correspondence once it is settled and no legal retention duty applies.

13. This website

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party content; the font is served from our own server as well. It is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. When you visit, the server stores technically necessary information (IP address, time, page requested, browser) in log files to keep the operation secure. These logs are not analysed and are deleted automatically after a short time.

14. Your rights

As we receive no data from the app, all data is in your hands: you handle access, correction, export and deletion directly in the app. For questions, including about data from a support contact, write to support@neo-horizon.com. You may lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority; in Switzerland this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

15. Changes

If we change this policy, we publish the new version at this address with a new date. We point out significant changes in the release notes of the next app version.
